There are many choices for Omakase in Hong Kong, but the quality varies and the portions are often small. However, recently I discovered a high-end Japanese restaurant called Sushi Saki in Tsim Sha Tsui East. Not only are the chef’s dishes surprising, but you can also enjoy an all-you-can-eat experience!
This chef-owned Sushi Saki is located in the Hilton Tower in Tsim Sha Tsui. Due to its prime location, the restaurant is able to use high-quality ingredients at a reasonable price. With its innovative dining concept, the menu features dishes made with fresh seasonal ingredients.
Dinner offers a chef’s selection menu at different price points. The HK$2,088 menu requires advance booking and includes a wide variety of dishes, including appetizers, vinegared dishes, pickled dishes, steamed dishes, sashimi, nigiri sushi, grilled dishes, and soup. The presentation is also full of traditional and Japanese aesthetics, perfect for Instagram. The chef even mentioned that if guests are not satisfied, they will make additional dishes at no extra charge!
The crab roe tofu in the three-course appetizer is paired with vinegar and pickles, refreshing and appetizing. The sashimi includes live scallops from Hokkaido, live ark shells, etc., served on a pale pink Himalayan salt plate. The saltiness of the salt plate enhances the freshness of the sashimi, and you can also taste the whole sea urchin. Every bite is quite satisfying!
The semi-cooked cicada prawn meat is equally fresh and sweet, poured with a special liver sauce made with fresh and fragrant shrimp paste. The dismantled Japanese hairy crab is paired with rich crab paste and dipped in a special crab vinegar with a hint of sweet orange fragrance for freshness, with a full-bodied texture.
As for the traditional Omakase essential nigiri sushi, it is made with Niigata Koshihikari rice combined with Hokkaido Nanatsuboshi rice, and three types of sushi vinegar are used to make sushi rice. It is served with fresh ingredients such as cherry salmon, bluefin tuna precious part “nouten”, horse prawn, and Hokkaido Nemuro’s fresh sea urchin. Even the chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) is well thought out, using matsutake mushrooms and dried scallops as broth, allowing you to taste the aroma of eggs and matsutake mushrooms!
