For those who pursue a taste for life, a restaurant that only offers delicious food may not bring absolute satisfaction. Japanese chef Shun Sato, with rich experience, has noticed Hong Kong people’s admiration for a tasteful lifestyle. He has created a high-style restaurant in Central that combines design, fashion, music, and delicious elements, using the Japanese traditional aesthetic of “wabi-sabi” as the design concept. The exquisite layout alone is enough to impress diners!

CENSU takes its name from the Japanese word “Sensu,” which represents the five senses in Japanese culture. The restaurant takes great care in the overall decoration, food, and music to provide diners with a holistic sensory experience in terms of visual, auditory, olfactory, taste, and tactile sensations, pushing the pursuit of a refined lifestyle to the extreme.

A great restaurant, of course, cannot do without delicious dishes. The owner sources high-quality seafood and ingredients from Japan, delivering fresh daily to Hong Kong, allowing those who have not visited Japan for a long time to taste the local flavors! In addition to the taste, the chef also puts effort into the presentation and pairing of appetizers. Looking at the Japanese cuisine on the table that is colorful, fragrant, and delicious, it can definitely ease our “homesickness”.

When things are beautiful to the extreme, it can create a sense of distance, but CENSU hopes that diners will feel relaxed and comfortable. Therefore, the restaurant adopts the traditional Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, with imperfection and simplicity as design features, creating a cozy and welcoming environment like home. The overall design of the space is simple and neat, with understated yet bright plaster walls, natural stone floors, and traditional Japanese wooden beams that exude a restrained yet elegant feeling. In the center of the restaurant is an unadorned large walnut table made from a single piece of wood, bringing diners back to nature from the hustle and bustle of the city.

In addition to the environmental design, the restaurant’s furnishings and tableware also embody a simple aesthetic. The ceramic bowls and plates used in the restaurant are warm in color, designed to exude a clean beauty, some of which are even crafted by head chef Shun’s skillful hands. In addition, Shun also specially invited the Japanese denim fashion brand WASHI to create a unique tapestry made of denim patchwork for the lobby, as well as charming denim coasters, showing the chef’s meticulous design of the entire dining experience.

It is said to be a dining experience that encompasses all senses, and of course, music is essential. You might think that such an elegant restaurant would probably choose jazz music, but the result is beyond our expectations. Shun encourages the team to share their unique music tastes, whether it’s hip-hop, rock, electronic, or local indie music, showcasing the restaurant’s distinctive style and attitude.

If you are still looking for a restaurant that can meet your different requirements, this “imperfect” restaurant may surprise you!
