Celebrating the River Spey in its entirety, The Macallan’s new Edition No.6 makes its official debut.

After 5 years of the Edition Series journey, The Macallan officially presents the final chapter of the series – The Macallan Single Malt Whisky Edition No.6. After collaborating with renowned restaurants and senior perfumers, and completing the Pantone decryption mission, how does The Macallan use Edition No.6 to put a perfect end to the special Edition Series?

“C5.V393.T23.2020-006” is the label number for Edition No.6. From the coding perspective, Edition No.6, like the previous two editions, was matured in 5 types of oak barrels, using a total of 393 barrels, with a darker color of T23, second only to T25 in No.4. In terms of taste, Edition No.6 has a base aroma of fresh fruit, nutmeg, ginger, and caramel, with hints of oak, ripe plum, sweet orange, and cinnamon flavors, followed by a lingering taste of chocolate and roasted oats. The alcohol content is maintained at 48.6% (another decoding: starting from Edition No.2, the decimal point after the alcohol content reading must be the number of that Edition).

When it comes to saying goodbye, what we really need to look at is not just the data of a single Edition No.6, but rather take a macro view of the entire Edition Series production; from the code on the label, it can be seen that the amount of barrels used in Edition No.6 has returned to the level of Edition No.2, which means that this time the production will decrease to a more rare approximately 220,000 bottles. As for whether Edition No.6 will experience the sky-high prices like No.2 did back then, many senior wine critics believe that the price will certainly be higher than the past two generations, but similarly influenced by The Macallan’s sales strategy and measures for No.3 to No.5, the chance of Edition No.6 appearing as a “sky-high” farewell series should be relatively small, so wine lovers can rest assured.

The Macallan’s final work, farewell work, and even the final episode, The Macallan takes the legendary River Spey in Scotland as the main theme of its spiritual home, praising this land full of character and the picturesque riverbank. Whisky master Steven Bremner drew inspiration from the experience of River Spey, selecting five casks representing the natural scenery of this region to create The Macallan Edition No.6 single malt whisky: Tevasa American oak cask representing River Spey, José Miguel Martin European oak cask representing the wisdom of Robert Mitchell, Tevasa European oak cask representing the delicacy of Hardy’s century-old fishing tackle, Vasyma American oak cask representing the craftsmanship of Macallan’s brewing, and finally the mysterious special Sherry Cask representing the elusive Atlantic salmon, every detail is carefully considered by The Macallan.

Moreover, Edition No.6 is a collaboration between The Macallan, fishing master Robert Mitchell, iconic fishing brand Hardy, and The Atlantic Salmon Trust, which has been conserving salmon for over 50 years, showcasing the perfect harmony of whisky-making art, agriculture, and nature. The Macallan also announced a new charity partnership with The Atlantic Salmon Trust to conserve fish species that have seen a sharp decline in recent years, highlighting the brand’s commitment to this vital element of nature.

After 5 years, the Edition Series officially comes to an end, but The Macallan’s spirit and craftsmanship will continue to be passed down, spreading to every corner of the world; for those who have always had a special affection for the Edition Series, it is worth collecting this bottle of Edition No.6 early, as the new fine wine is now available for sale at designated locations, priced at HK$1,103.
