With the increasing popularity of vegetarian culture, many restaurants and cafes are introducing vegetarian menus to promote a healthy lifestyle. Coinciding with World Vegetarian Day on October 1st, Ovolo Hotel, which has always been promoting vegetarian culture, is launching “The Year of Vegan”, offering vegetarian options in all its restaurants, bars, and guest rooms for a whole year. All dishes do not contain any meat ingredients, making it the first all-vegetarian hotel in Hong Kong!
Ovolo Hotel, which has always upheld the concept of sustainable development, has launched this initiative to help reduce carbon emissions and mitigate climate change. Girish Jhunjhnuwala, founder and CEO of Ovolo Group, said, “Enjoying good food and wine with friends is one of life’s greatest pleasures, but at the same time, we must be aware that this behavior can have a significant impact on the environment and even humanity itself. Therefore, we hope to practice sustainability in food service so that guests can continue to enjoy food in a sustainable way.”
Therefore, the menus at Ovolo Central‘s Veda restaurant and Ovolo Southside‘s Komune restaurant will be completely vegetarian in response to the initiative, including dishes like allo gobi (roasted cauliflower) and corn kichdi (mushroom curry with corn porridge), available for a limited time from October 1, 2020 to October 1, 2021, allowing each customer to taste exquisite vegetarian dishes and even integrate “vegetarianism” into their daily lives in the future.
In addition, Ovolo Hotels will open a new vegetarian restaurant in the future, and the room service menu will also be changed to all vegetarian, aiming to incorporate vegetarianism everywhere, so that guests can become more interested in vegetarianism, and at the same time, achieve the goal of protecting the natural environment.
In addition to introducing a vegetarian menu, the hotel also collaborates with local farms to use local fresh ingredients as much as possible, and tries to switch to reusable transport packaging to further reduce waste. Other environmental facilities include eliminating the use of disposable plastic bathroom facilities, switching to eco-friendly straws, and using reusable slippers and woven bags. It is truly inspiring to see a hotel in Hong Kong making such efforts to promote environmental protection!
