On December 5, 2017, the Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini officially welcomed a historic moment at the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory, unveiling the new model Urus, bringing the third new member to the existing production line. Today, Urus has become a pioneer in the SUV category, and its three-year production period has been very successful, with a total global production of 15,000 units, solidifying its position without a doubt.
Hailed as another off-road vehicle after the LM002 in 1986, the appearance of the Urus is not only to inherit the legacy of its predecessor, but also to write a new chapter, becoming an unparalleled representative. The first mass-produced SUV model, the first to use a Turbo engine, and the first SUV to be crowned with the title of “super SUV,” the Urus not only pushes Lamborghini beyond limits but also successfully overturns the existing impressions in the automotive industry for many years.
Recently, Lamborghini Hong Kong has launched a special program called “UNLOCK ANY ROAD HONG KONG” for this “super SUV”, allowing the Urus to showcase its reputation as an off-road king in this small city. ZTYLEZ MAN has also been invited by Lamborghini Hong Kong to conduct physical tests for this latest Urus Off-road Edition model, leading the Urus to explore various places in Hong Kong and experience the unique driving experience of the Urus.
If you have been paying attention to the news about the Urus, you should know that Urus launched a color option called Pearl Capsule last year. The very special four-layer shiny finish can be fully applied to four special colors, namely Giallo Inti (yellow), Arancio Borealis (orange), and Verde Mantis (green). In 2021, to celebrate Urus reaching a new milestone, Lamborghini’s customization department Ad Personam has introduced another new color – the understated and elegant Grigio Nimbus metallic silver-gray – to welcome the upgrade of the Urus Off-road Edition. ZTYLEZ MAN was invited to test drive this Urus Off-road Edition model with Grigio Nimbus.
This time, the test drive experience will start from the Lamborghini Wan Chai showroom, passing through Admiralty, Central, Western District, and then through the Western District Tunnel all the way to Tsuen Wan, and then climbing up Tai Mo Shan for the official test drive experience.
Let’s first introduce the new upgrade of the Urus Off-road Edition. This time, there haven’t been too many changes in terms of performance, still equipped with a 4.0L V8 Twin-turbo engine, providing a maximum of 650 horsepower and approximately 849 Nm of torque, with an 8-speed automatic transmission, a four-wheel drive system set at a ratio of 40:60. The upgraded Urus Off-road Edition’s main feature in terms of performance is the provision of three driving modes: TERRA (off-road), SABBIA (sand), and NEVE (snow), added to the ANIMA self-adjusting network intelligent management system, allowing the Urus to exhibit extreme dynamism but comfortable driving pleasure on sand and gravel roads. Although there aren’t many places in Hong Kong that involve off-road sandy routes, Lamborghini Hong Kong has recently tried to lead the Urus to explore remote areas, such as the rocky shore of Tung Chung on the north coast of Lantau Island and the famous Time Tunnel, to experience the performance of its off-road mode firsthand.
In addition, the upgrade of the Urus Off-road Edition also includes a brand new unique roof luggage box, providing over 450 liters of storage space for all car owners who love to travel around. Therefore, before getting on the test drive this time, we also specifically opened this luggage box designed by the Centro Stile design center of the factory to appreciate it, seeing that the space inside the box is quite ample, and it is equipped with automatic identification function supplementary lights, luggage straps, and anti-theft lock system. It is enough to cover the length of this roof. From the appearance, I believe all “surfing sons” will definitely be moved by it, not to mention ordinary luggage or special accessories.
Additionally, it is worth mentioning that although the data shows that the double-layer bottom and side wall structure of the suitcase are made of high-quality fiberglass materials, the material has passed the double impact test certified by the Swedish AB (RISE) Research Institute, so car owners can rest assured of the suitcase’s durability. In order to match the suitcase, Lamborghini has also put a lot of thought into the production, specially adding stainless steel sports side steps to the Urus Off-road Edition, making it easier for car owners to place items in the roof luggage box with ease, while also optimizing the appearance of the Urus.
Although Hong Kong may not have extreme conditions like Russia’s Lake Baikal for testing the Urus, we still tried driving the Urus on a variety of different road surfaces in this test. Even on steep mountain roads, the over 2-ton Urus handled with ease, even during rapid cornering, thanks to its low-end torque and highly responsive active air suspension system, giving drivers great confidence. Especially for a vehicle with a wheelbase of 3 meters, the feeling of weight transfer is much better than you would imagine.
After passing through the dense fog mountain, we drove to the vicinity of Shenjing. The road conditions in this area are long and slightly undulating, perfect for unleashing the explosive power of the Urus, which accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers in just 3.6 seconds. We also tested its ability to actively adjust the ground clearance and activate the four-wheel drive system.
Finally, of course, we have to mention the price upgrade of the Urus Off-road Edition. According to the manufacturer, the configuration of the Urus off-road version will be divided into three main items. First is the off-road package, including three off-road driving modes, chassis steel plates, brushed steel exhaust pipes, body paint, front and rear bumpers designed to handle high inclines with anti-slip steel plates, priced at HK$60,700; the second item is the Urus roof luggage box, panoramic sunroof, and black roof, priced at HK$89,288; and finally, the stainless steel sport side steps, priced at HK$62,000, all prices are exclusive of tax. In addition to the live photos of the test drive by ZTYLEZ MAN this time, Lamborghini Hong Kong had already taken the new car to various places before the release of the Urus Off-road Edition.
