Ming Kee Cheung Fun is a popular specialty in the Sheung Shui area, and this old brand that has been open for decades has always maintained its old appearance. With emerald green patterned floor tiles and folding plastic stools, the cheung fun is served on enamel patterned plates, topped with sauce and sesame. There are very few cheung fun shops in Hong Kong that still serve it this way.
The store recently posted a closure notice, and April 9th will be the last day of operation. Many regular customers in the neighborhood expressed their regret. However, some customers left negative reviews online, prompting the owner to publish a long post detailing the hardships of the job, such as working from 4 am to 7 pm before being able to sit down and eat, dealing with difficult customers, and experiencing employee theft, among other things. At the same time, the owner also expressed their personality by stating that if someone can endure the aforementioned hardships, they are willing to share the soy sauce recipe that a customer once offered to buy for a six-figure sum!
Apart from all the online drama, authentic and affordable street snacks, combined with nostalgic flavors, are indeed the memories of many people in old Hong Kong. The food styles in the shop are very simple, such as rice noodle rolls, fish balls, pork skin, and siu mai, as well as three other dishes: century egg and salted egg lean meat congee, traditional plain congee, and soy sauce stir-fried noodles. Of course, the rice noodle rolls are the highlight, with a smooth texture. Remember to try them with soy sauce, which has a slightly salty and slightly sweet taste.
