Cheung Chau may be the liveliest outlying island in Hong Kong, with cafes, restaurants, and snack shops opening one after another! Recently, there is a new café called “Nutshell” located in a corner, with a stylish facade dominated by dark brown wood. The interior of the shop has around a dozen seats, not too many, and through the large glass windows, you can enjoy the street and tree views. With abundant natural light, it truly gives off a leisurely island vibe. You might want to include this shop in your weekend island tour itinerary!
It’s called a cafe, but in fact this shop does not serve coffee, but instead focuses on tea. In terms of drinks, in addition to the popular matcha, there is also Masala Chai, which is made to order and rich in fragrant spices. A must-drink for summer is the bubble tea, served in tall glass cups, with flavors including elderflower, orange, and passion fruit pineapple, clearly layered and refreshing with every sip.
There are many styles of desserts, most of which are tea-flavored. The “Brown Rice Green Tea Dual-Color Cheesecake” ($55) has a smooth cheesecake texture, with a prominent brown rice flavor and a crispy base with brown rice aroma. The “Earl Grey Tea Dacquoise” ($30) features Earl Grey tea cream sandwiched between French almond Dacquoise, with a tea aroma that is not too sweet, making it a perfect match for tea desserts!
“Baked Tea Chocolate Layered Basque Cheesecake” ($55) is a relatively sweet cake, goes quite well with refreshing bubble tea!
