The recent hot-selling NMN supplement is touted as a new generation anti-aging product, attracting the attention of many beauty enthusiasts. What exactly is NMN? And is there enough research to prove its effectiveness? This time, we invited accredited nutritionist Xie Shimin to debunk the 4 major myths about anti-aging NMN and remind everyone of the points to consider when purchasing NMN!
//Learn about NMN//
Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN for short) is one of the main precursors of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). The main function of NMN is to serve as an intermediate or step in the creation of NAD+, which is an essential coenzyme for life and cellular functions, including metabolism, DNA repair, cell growth, and survival.
Can NMN be obtained through diet?
NMN naturally exists in a variety of foods, including edamame, broccoli, avocado, cauliflower, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. However, in order to obtain 250 milligrams of NMN per day, it would require consuming 100 kilograms of broccoli or 69 kilograms of avocado, which is practically impossible. Therefore, simply consuming a diet that includes NMN does not significantly increase NAD+ levels.
Are there any strong academic studies that prove the effectiveness of NMN supplements?
Most NMN studies have been conducted on animals, and some studies suggest that it may have positive effects on various aspects of health, including cognitive function, cardiovascular health, and metabolism. However, human studies on the effects of taking NMN are still in the early stages, and data is quite limited.

//What are the side effects of NMN supplements? Are they suitable for everyone?//
Although there is limited data on the long-term use of NMN by humans, a small number of NMN supplement users have reported mild side effects such as slight gastrointestinal discomfort and headaches. However, more research is needed to confirm the potential for these side effects. Before starting any supplements, please consult with a doctor or nutritionist.
//What should I pay attention to when buying NMN supplements? How much can I take daily?//
The dosage of NMN supplements varies, and in a clinical trial, a dosage of 250 mg/day was shown to safely and effectively increase NAD+ levels by 40%. To purchase NMN supplements, you can look for reputable suppliers who have obtained third-party quality certifications and product testing, or choose supplements with a purity of over 99% to ensure they do not contain any heavy metals, etc.
