Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN for short) is one of the main precursors of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). The main function of NMN is to serve as an intermediate or step in the creation of NAD+, which is an essential coenzyme for life and cellular functions, including metabolism, DNA repair, cell growth, and survival.

Can NMN be obtained through diet?

NMN naturally exists in a variety of foods, including edamame, broccoli, avocado, cauliflower, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. However, in order to obtain 250 milligrams of NMN per day, it would require consuming 100 kilograms of broccoli or 69 kilograms of avocado, which is practically impossible. Therefore, simply consuming a diet that includes NMN does not significantly increase NAD+ levels.
