Tai Kok Tsui is a popular choice for local food, this time introducing the Japanese restaurant located on Tai Chuen Street, specializing in handmade Japanese set meals. The shop is small, with a wooden decor that gives a homely feeling, the prices are not expensive and the quality is quite surprising.
The full-day set meal starts at $58, including a main course, seasonal salad, and cold dish. You can choose from Inaniwa udon, soba noodles, or Yuki rice, with three options for the udon broth: kombu bonito soup, pork bone broth, and beef bone broth. The variety of choices shows their sincerity. For the self-selected salad, the must-have is the yuzu purple sweet potato green apple salad, with smooth purple sweet potato puree mixed with crisp green apple, refreshing on the palate.
There are nine set meals, each with its own unique characteristics. We recommend the slow-cooked beef tenderloin with homemade mushroom sauce for $98. The beef tenderloin is cooked to be tender and juicy, while the mushroom sauce is savory and flavorful, making it a perfect match with the beef. Another recommended dish is the crispy fried pork chop for $68, which is different from the traditional Japanese fried method. It is only lightly coated and fried, but still crispy and delicious. Drizzling it with sweet sauce makes it even more delicious.
We highly recommend adding an additional $8 for soy sauce eggs, whether paired with rice, udon, or even soba noodles, you won’t feel strange at all. The egg yolk is filled with a rich soy sauce flavor. Breaking the egg yolk and mixing it with rice or noodles will greatly enhance the deliciousness, very satisfying!
