Hidden Japanese-style cafeteria in Tsim Sha Tsui building courtyard! Imitating the late-night cafeteria cat rice / a variety of grilled Japanese rice bowls / gloomy fish-selling rice

In Tsim Sha Tsui, there is a hidden building courtyard located on the popular Korean food street of Austin Road. Its entrance looks like a typical building entrance, with a narrow and long corridor that many people pass by without noticing. It turns out that going inside leads to a building courtyard! Next to it are several shops, one of which is a Japanese restaurant that changed its fate a few months ago, and the new restaurant is called “Tenjo Shokudo.”

The menu is similar to the old store, but uses a higher-grade Japanese egg “Akatsuki”. In the Japanese rice bowl, there is an orange-yellow egg, making the appearance more attractive! There are several signature dishes in the store, such as the “Melancholy Fish Rice” (HK$118) with fragrant and rich grilled eel, accompanied by a yellow-orange fried egg and spring onions, with the egg yolk flowing onto the plump rice grains.

There are also daily limited 10 portions of homemade beef burgers, which can be paired with tamago (HK$128) or cheese (HK$118), but unfortunately they were sold out on the day. The signature “Cat Rice” comes from the recipe of the popular Japanese manga “Midnight Diner,” mixing butter with pearl rice, adding secret bonito soy sauce and shredded seaweed after melting, and then sprinkling with thin slices of bonito flakes.

To have the atmosphere of a late-night canteen, of course, you cannot lack grilled items, snacks, and simmered dishes! Here are dishes like mirin-grilled chicken with fish maw, sesame chicken wings, Gillette treasure prawns, crispy fried oysters, seven-flavor seaweed fries, and other fragrant snacks. As for grilled items, there are mackerel, beef tongue core, handmade minced chicken sticks, scallion chicken, grilled pineapple, and more.

The shop may be small, with only about a dozen seats including the bar counter and outdoor tables, but there is a wide variety of food choices. You can even check in at the courtyard area. Next time you pass by Castle Peak Road, be sure to take note of this hidden entrance!
