I didn’t expect to find such a peaceful place to have coffee in the bustling center of Causeway Bay! The newly opened café, fuwafuwa, is located next to Radio City on Hennessy Road, right next to SOGO. It faces Hennessy Road, but the shop itself is hidden inside the building. Outside, there is a busy street with pedestrians, but inside the shop, there is a comfortable and tranquil atmosphere.
Café name fuwafuwa is used in Japanese to describe a soft and fluffy feeling. The owner hopes to create a relaxed and leisurely atmosphere, with elements such as the logo, curtains, and wall decorations all exuding a Japanese taste. Talking to the owner will reveal even more surprises, as many details have been carefully considered and even cost has been spared. For example, the coffee bar, tables, and display cabinets are all custom-made by a local woodworking studio called “Second Spring”.
Simple as a coffee card, using a textured milk carton to make paper, and sourcing four-color inkstones in Japan, each stamp has a different color, full of personalized elements.
In addition to machine-brewed and hand-brewed coffee, it is worth noting the matcha latte ($60), which uses the small green tea from Furukawa Seicha (thin tea). It is carefully prepared by Mr. Furukawa, a Japanese tea master, who blends two types of tea leaves, morning green and morning sun, to create a mild and smooth taste with a fresh umami flavor. To maintain the best flavor of matcha, it is freshly brewed and mixed with fresh milk only when a customer orders it, ensuring that the matcha flavor is still rich and abundant.
The store also offers cakes, with styles changing periodically. Currently, we have strawberry cream rolls, which are soft sponge cakes filled with smooth and creamy filling, along with fresh strawberries, making them very sweet and fragrant. The chocolate flavor is enhanced with hazelnuts, giving each bite of cream a nutty aroma.
