Sometimes you don’t necessarily want to make plans with someone to have a meal. If you want to enjoy a slow meal by yourself, then the newly opened SOLO UDON in Causeway Bay is perfect for you. As the name suggests, it’s a udon restaurant for one person!
The bar design seats are all separated by partitions, giving a feeling of having several private study rooms. If you sit in the central position of the restaurant, the chef will also pull open the partition in front of your seat to serve you the meal.
Ordering is also self-service, simply use the self-ordering machine at the entrance and scan the QR code to complete the process. The restaurant specializes in daily freshly handmade udon noodles, using 100% Hokkaido wheat flour, with a chewy texture and rich wheat aroma. They offer a variety of hot and cold udon options, including chicken and white soup char siu udon, shrimp and thick soup jumbo shrimp udon, curry soup jumbo pork chop udon, and you can also choose the size.
Highly recommended Prince Onsen Egg Cold Udon, starting from $88. The udon is served with a generous amount of chilled bonito soup, topped with prince sauce, shredded seaweed, green onions, and a hot spring egg. It is also mixed with fresh wasabi, which adds a refreshing aroma without being spicy. It is delicious, and for added texture, you can also add some crispy tempura.
In terms of snacks, a must-order is the Sakura Shrimp and Coriander Pancake Tempura/$48. I love coriander. The strong aroma of coriander, combined with the salty and fresh taste of Sakura shrimp, is a perfect combination. It is fried to a crispy texture without being greasy. Before you know it, you will finish the whole dish. It’s not always a bad thing to enjoy a meal alone.
