Local renowned multimedia artist Ouyang Yingji is deeply passionate about researching Hong Kong’s food culture. Following the “Food and Living” exhibition held in March this year, which focused on food slang, he recently organized a solo exhibition titled “Sik⁶ Ngaang⁶ Nei⁵ 食硬你,” continuing his “Food Comics” series.
The exhibition showcases 18 pieces of artwork. Ouyang Yingji drew inspiration from Hong Kong’s unique food culture and the coexistence of Chinese and Western cultures in the local area. Through hand-drawn comics, a series of Cantonese idioms and slang related to Hong Kong cuisine are vividly depicted. The exhibition features colorful “salty and wet” comics, including works such as “Eating noodles and revealing the bottom of the bowl,” “Are you biting me to eat?” and “If it’s not cooked, I won’t eat it.”
As a lover of food culture, Ouyang Yingji collaborated with the local craft beer brand, White Orchid, to create a special cocktail for sale at Quiet Gallery. Additionally, limited edition badges will be available during the exhibition.
