Porsche recently released a special model that looks very familiar to the Porsche 911 series, but it is actually a special 911 Sport Classic that combines different classic elements.
Following the previous generation version of the same name (997) introduced in 2009, a new version is now being released after a gap of 13 years. The all-new 911 Sport Classic, also a limited edition, will be available in 1,250 units, becoming the second work in Porsche’s four Heritage Design models introduced last year. Moreover, this generation will only offer a “manual transmission” version, which is definitely great news for fans of Porsche’s flagship sports car.
In terms of specifications, the all-new 911 Sport Classic is based on the 911 Turbo S version, equipped with a 3.7L Twin Turbo engine, commonly known as the Flat 6, with a maximum horsepower output of 542 horsepower, paired with a 7-speed gearbox, 20″ front and 21″ rear wheels, and ceramic brake kit. In terms of weight, the 911 Sport Classic weighs 1570 kilograms, 70 kilograms lighter than the standard 911 Turbo. Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur Vehicles Director Boris Apenbrink stated: “We must combine these features, but all systems must also be adjusted, such as suspension, stability management systems, and other technical features and procedures.” He further emphasized that Porsche’s testing procedures for the new car are particularly strict to ensure that the new car must pass through every engineer in the team until everyone is satisfied before the testing can be officially completed.
Engineer introduction, the positioning of this special edition new car in terms of performance is between the GTS and Turbo. Moreover, since the new car is rear-wheel drive, the manufacturer has officially confirmed it as the most powerful manual transmission model among all current Porsche production cars – with 40 more horsepower than the GT3’s 502 horsepower.
As the second generation masterpiece of the Heritage Design series, the new 911 Sport Classic’s appearance draws inspiration from many classic Porsche designs, such as the racing stripes of the classic 356 Sport Grey Metallic, the ducktail spoiler of the Carrera RS 2.7, the fender mirrors of the 1967 911S, as well as a series of exclusive details like special edition badges, Pepita houndstooth seats inspired by the 918 Spyder, and Paldao wood interior trim, all of which set it apart from the Turbo S and Turbo series with a unique body profile.
It is understood that the concept of exterior design is referenced by the team from the 1950s Porsche, and developed along different series until the 1980s, aiming to reproduce the most representative features of Porsche in this new car.
As for the price, it is reported that the new car will start at 274,000 euros, and Porsche will also offer owners the opportunity to purchase a Porsche Design watch specially designed for the all-new 911 Sport Classic. It is certain that this will become the number one collection for American collectors in the future, as it will be launched in the United States at the end of 2022. It is worth noting that Porsche has arranged for a right-hand drive version of the 911 Sport Classic to debut at the annual British automotive event, the Goodwood Festival, where everyone can witness the amazing power of this special edition new car.
