Opening a café on outlying islands is no longer a new trend, and Peng Chau also has several coffee shops or dessert shops worth checking out. However, in terms of food variety and quality, the most recommended one is Island Table Grocer Café.
Island Table Grocer Café has been in operation for about two years, jointly run by three sisters. The entire white-walled house is filled with plants on the outside, with outdoor seating available. Inside, there is a row of seats facing the street and large windows, creating a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere in the small shop.
The café may be small, but the variety of food is impressive. They offer sourdough toast with basic café ingredients like salmon and avocado, as well as fresh and light options like hummus, buffalo cheese salad, savory pasta, and pizza. They also have baked goods like grilled meat rolls and walnut pastries.
But the most attractive thing is still the desserts! The homemade cheesecakes have unique flavors, among them the “Caramel Cheesecake” (HK$52) is baked upon order, with a crispy caramel layer bringing a caramelized aroma, while the “Apple Crumble Cheesecake” (HK$55) is a summer limited edition flavor, with a smooth cheesecake filling with apple crumble, and a crispy layer, providing a rich and layered texture.
Beverages also have summer limited styles, “Summer Coconut Coffee” (HK$56) with added coconut milk, very creamy and smooth.
The journey from Central to Peng Chau only takes 20 minutes, why not escape the city and visit a small island!
