Printmaking not only emphasizes the presentation of visual arts, but the creative process is also closely related to printing technology. Starting from the “New Woodcut Movement” in the early 20th century, this art form combining carving and printing gradually became popular. With technological advancements, local printmaking creations have also undergone more changes, attracting more and more artists to engage in printmaking.
Recently, Marble, Print & Clay Art Studio and a professional printmaking studio held the third Modern Print Biennial Exhibition “Epilogue” at KC100 Art Space, showcasing the works and stories of over 20 local printmaking artists to the audience.
The production of prints starts with making the printing plate. Artists choose one of the methods of “concave, convex, flat, hole” to etch the plate, then color the plate, and finally print it on the paper. The final work will only be presented to the public after a longer process compared to traditional painting methods where the image can be seen immediately. It is a highly thoughtful art form, and each piece is worth careful appreciation by the audience.

The uniqueness of prints lies in their replicability, but some people may feel that their artistic value is lower than that of unique pieces because of this characteristic. However, each type of creation also has techniques and visual aesthetics that are difficult to replace, and most artists, in order to maintain the value of prints, will not replicate them infinitely, and may even destroy the printing plates, creating the unique value of prints.
It’s rare that this exhibition can bring together prints from many artists. Why not take advantage of the holiday to visit and appreciate the beauty of printmaking craftsmanship together!
