Launching a stage performance under the epidemic is not easy. After months of suspension in the performing industry, the “Eldthk” troupe recently announced a collaboration with the young creative troupe “Riceballershk” to bring the sixth solo female monologue by local actress Lin Zhenzhen!
The performance is the work of the famous British playwright Dennis Kelly, “GIRLS AND BOYS”, the story starts from a female perspective, telling a love story of a happy couple. This work premiered in the UK in 2018, and then was performed in many countries in different languages. This time, “One Old Rice Ball” self-financed the purchase of the Cantonese version of the script, inviting Lam Yik Wah to be the director and Wong Wing Sze to be the translator. After many years, Lam Yik Wah once again collaborated with Hong Kong actors. This Cantonese theater work is definitely something to look forward to!
SHE and HE coincidentally met at the airport while waiting in line, sparking a passionate and intense love affair. The scorching passion gradually turned practical over time: marriage, home ownership, mortgages, parenting – ordinary yet significant. Despite being born into the working class, her innate wisdom allowed her to live a peaceful life and helped her transcend the predetermined social ladder. Slowly, the power dynamics between the couple quietly shifted – what she thought was a trivial crack turned into an insurmountable chasm. The once stable house collapsed, and she realized she was not mentally prepared to face it.
From a female perspective, a script with the theme of “loss” not only reflects the lifestyle and psychological state of urban women, but also reflects the concern for the current society.
Facing new attempts in performance form, text, and language, this will be a breakthrough milestone for the two theater groups “Very Lin Yihua” and “A Group of Old Friends”. Actress Lin Zhenzhen even launched a podcast “Lin Zhenzhen’s Road to Picking Stones” to share the creative process of “Women and Children GIRLS AND BOYS”. Interested viewers can listen on Apple or Spotify.
The performance will take place at the Shouson Theatre in the Hong Kong Arts Centre from September 2 to 11 this year. Audience members who purchase tickets now will also enjoy early bird discounts, so don’t miss out!
