53 years later, OMEGA embarks on a new space mission once again. But this time, Moonwatch doesn’t just land on the moon, but on 11 planets! Stepping into the watch industry event month, OMEGA and Swatch have brought groundbreaking news, confirmed late last night that they will bring a collaborative watch – #Moonwatch – marking an amazing collaboration for the SWATCH group.
Two major brands announced with great fanfare that they drew design inspiration from space, using the iconic OMEGA “Moonwatch” Speedmaster as a blueprint to create an 11-piece Swatch series named after planets, ranging from the legendary MOON to the center of the solar system SUN, the origin of humanity EARTH, and the dwarf planet PLUTO on the periphery, creating a truly unique Moonwatch series.
As a first-time collaboration, OMEGA and Swatch have decided to design an innovative product that combines the unique features of both brands. For OMEGA, which has established a deep relationship with the moon over the past half century, this collaboration with Swatch is not only an interesting project but also a task of integrating watchmaking technology. Therefore, through this collaboration, the brand pays tribute to Swatch, a courageous and bold company, commemorating their role during the “quartz revolution” period when they took risks to bring a turnaround to the struggling Swiss watch industry. By combining the characteristics and histories of both brands in the design, they have created the BIOCERAMIC Moon’S’watch together.
The watch has a diameter of 42mm, and the case is made of the iconic BIOCERAMIC synthetic material developed by SWATCH, offering up to 11 color options, including the original colors of the Moonwatch.
In recent years, BIOCERAMIC material has become a key focus of the Swatch team’s research and development. It is composed of two-thirds ceramic and one-third castor oil. Although the series is different from the standard Speedmaster watches in colors like pink and light blue, loyal fans of the Moonwatch will find it difficult to spot any differences in overall appearance, making the BIOCERAMIC Moon’S’watch a special combination of innovation and tradition.
Moreover, in terms of design, it is more important that both sides intentionally retain the most representative details of the original Moonwatch, such as the asymmetrical case, classic “Dot over 90” tachymeter scale, and unique Speedmaster sub-dials. The dial and crown positions are both engraved with the collaborative logo “OMEGA x SWATCH,” paired with a VELCRO© strap that was once used to match space suits, greatly enhancing the series’ tribute flavor.
It is worth noting that two of them, “Mission to Saturn” and “Mission to Earth,” respectively have a “Saturn celestial body” designed hour dial at the six o’clock position on the dial, and the back cover is decorated with an extraterrestrial view of the Earth, which is a more special and collectible design in the series.
The BIOCERAMIC MoonSwatch will be officially available at three designated SWATCH stores on March 26th, priced at HKD $2,100. Watch enthusiasts and collectors should not miss it.
