Various societal labels place invisible pressure on women today, trapping many in life frameworks designed by others! Through SK-II STUDIO, SK-II collaborates with six female Olympic athletes to bring the powerful “VS” animated series, where athletes challenge various societal pressures that manifest as “monsters”! The new series “VS” echoes SK-II’s brand core concept of #CHANGEDESTINY, encouraging women to overcome pressure and take control of their own destiny.
Challenging social pressure, the story of six female Olympic athletes fighting monsters!
The six-episode “VS” animated series brings together award-winning animation film production teams and famous musicians, breaking new ground by combining animation, live-action, science fiction, and sports elements to shock the public visually! The animation is based on the real stories of six Olympic athletes, with various societal pressures manifesting as different forms of monsters, while the athletes as protagonists face challenges with brave and fearless attitudes!
Reject self-doubt, understand that “oneself” is the biggest enemy!
The external pressure often leads women into self-doubt, just like Kasumi Ishikawa, a table tennis player in the “VS” animated series “Pressure”. Despite being a two-time Olympic champion, she feels confused due to the expectations of others, and the feelings of unease and fear make her question herself. As she looks at herself in different periods in the elevator, recalling the hard work and practice she put in, and then achieving results, despite being constantly surrounded by voices of doubt, she ultimately refuses to give up on her dreams, bravely overcoming the inner “monster” and facing the biggest enemy – herself, successfully defeating her inner demons in the “Future City”.
“Pressure” is directed by Damien Nuno and Baltek Kik, who have excellent achievements and reputation in the film industry, bringing outstanding visual effects to this action-adventure film under neon lights, with a heart-pounding effect that suits the style of the film very well.
The rules of beauty? Your own beauty is determined by yourself!
Society always sets various unwritten rules for women’s appearance, and in “Rules,” the surfer Maeshima Maeda was taught from a young age to follow rules, learn etiquette, maintain dignity and restraint, and obey instructions to become a lady in everyone’s eyes. “As long as you do as you’re told, others will see your beauty,” she gradually found herself suffocating under various restrictions, forming an immense “monster.” In the end, she chose to create her own rules, muster the courage to face the towering waves in front of her, and live as her true self. Only then did she realize that the true definition of “beauty” is determined by oneself.
In the film, artist Chino Masataka created a traditional portrait for Maeda, which served as the initial inspiration and overall aesthetic tone of the entire film. The unique Japanese painting style blends traditional and classical elements, as if carving out the eternal, making it visually striking.
Be brave to rewrite your destiny, take control of your own life!
A series of animated films, like micro-movies, depict the determination to bravely challenge and change, which echoes precisely SK-II’s brand core concept of “#CHANGEDESTINY”, bringing out the idea that “destiny is not predetermined, but is in our choices”, conveying a positive and empowering force, encouraging women to take control of their own destiny, and fear no change.
The story of a female athlete successfully defeating monsters reveals a spirit that does not bow to fate, and the determination to face fear is quite moving!
