When it comes to one of the annual events that art enthusiasts cannot miss, Art Central definitely takes a spot! The 9th edition of Art Central 2024 will return to the Central Harbourfront from March 28th to 31st. This year, there will be over 90 galleries participating, focusing on renowned and emerging artists from the 20th and 21st centuries, showcasing artworks from the Czech Republic, Egypt, Italy, Japan, and South Korea. The list of participating galleries and featured artists for this edition has already been announced.
Art Central 2024 has the largest number of independent exhibitors to date, with over a third of them making their debut at Art Central. This year also introduces a new gallery section called “Neo,” featuring galleries exhibiting for the first time, showcasing emerging or undiscovered artists. A total of 11 galleries and 15 artists are making their debut in this new gallery section, including BFM Art Center, biscuit gallery, Cub_ism_ Artspace, EYECANDIES, Gallery Palzo, and more.
As for the main exhibition area galleries at Art Central 2024, they will showcase a series of bold and innovative galleries from Asia, as well as works by outstanding artists from around the world. Highlights include a group exhibition of young mainland Chinese artists presented by Bonian Space and WAS Art Centre, including works by Bai Mengfan, Xu Yahan, Yin Ziang, and Zeng Zhen, engaging in dialogue with works by international artists. Additionally, renowned Korean female artist Lee Myung-Mi and emerging artist Jang Ji Su will also make an appearance at the PNC (Daegu) booth, where Hoon Kwak’s paintings will also be on display.
In addition, this year’s Art Central will have over one-third of participating galleries showcasing solo exhibitions, including new paintings by Chan Keng Hong at Contemporary by Angela Li, recent oil and plastic paintings by Colombian artist Lourdes Navarro exhibited at Winners Gallery, special painting installations and multimedia installations created by Nobody Here, and contemporary surrealist paintings by self-taught artist Marcelo Suaznabar exhibited at Gallery THEO.
It is worth mentioning the “Alternative Sculpture and Installation Art Zone”, this highly anticipated highlight project since 2015 will return this year, exhibiting artists such as Sangsun Bae from LEE & BAE, Rony Plesl from Kvalitář, and Andrea Samory from Wan Gallery. It is definitely an art feast to look forward to.
