A must-visit for literary youths! The “Cloud Cave Library” full of design sensibility will be completed next year!

There are many unique libraries around the world, such as the grand George Peabody Library in the United States, the “cake box” style of the Future Library in Kanazawa, Japan, and the Trinity College Library in Dublin, Ireland, reminiscent of a classical gentlemen’s club. Located in the southern Chinese city of Haikou, the “Wormhole Library” will be the next must-visit spot for literary enthusiasts! With its unique design filled with holes, it breaks away from the traditional dull impression of libraries and gives you a refreshing feeling!

The uniquely designed Cloud Cave Library is located in Century Park by the coast of Haikou Bay, with its design led by MAD Architects. The most eye-catching feature must be the various sizes of holes. These holes serve different purposes, with some embedded with glass to allow natural light to enter the library, creating a bright reading atmosphere. Some holes are used as entrances to guide people into different spaces within the library, while others can block sunlight or be used for ventilation, truly combining design and functionality.

To create a more minimalist and tidy feel for the library, the entire building is constructed with white concrete, and CNC and 3D printing models are used for casting, with wires neatly hidden within the concrete. The seamless connection of the ceiling, walls, and floors brings about a unified curved structure, while also creating continuous contours and smooth lines.

Upon entering the “cave,” you will find a space that can store up to tens of thousands of books, covering an area of about 690 square meters. The library also has a cafe where visitors can quietly enjoy a leisurely afternoon after reading. Additionally, visitors can go to the library’s rooftop terrace to overlook the scenery of the South China Sea, experiencing the warm sunlight and cool sea breeze.

In addition, this unique library features rest areas, including shower rooms, drinking water areas, bicycle parking areas, etc., providing a comfortable resting place for the coastal Haikou.

This well-designed library is expected to be completed next year, and I believe that many literary youths will be looking forward to it!
