In just over two weeks, the Lunar New Year will be here. Central Market is also presenting the “Central Market Big Dada Square, Prosperity in the Market” Spring Festival project, bringing local historical significance with green stalls, traditional red flower signs, and Dada Square culture. In addition, Central Market is collaborating with the Hong Kong Illustrators Association to hold an original manuscript exhibition and a special market with the theme of “Chinese New Year Culture”, continuing to pass on Hong Kong culture to the next generation at the beginning of the Year of the Rabbit!
During the Chinese New Year period, the G/F OASIS in Central Market will be dressed up with a touch of local nostalgia. The market will feature 6 nostalgic green tin stalls, occupied by various local heritage brands and social enterprises, offering a range of limited edition Lunar New Year products. Visitors can immerse themselves in the spirit of Hong Kong while shopping for festive goods.
In the Central Market, there are also 13 original stalls with preserved traditional designs for everyone to enjoy and take photos! Only the damaged parts of the stalls have been repaired, while the old-style seafood stalls still have their water tanks and channels, the poultry stalls have their chopping boards and blood troughs, and the vegetable stalls have their shelves, all of which have been preserved. In addition, the repaired stalls have also attracted local brands, including Kam Yuen Rice Company, Eighteen Twenty-Two (Cheongsam and Long Shirt Shop), Gingko Mart, and Fishermen’s Office, offering special discounts.
This time, the Central Market collaborated with the Hong Kong Illustrators Association to bring a market and exhibition of original drawings with the theme of “Central Market and Hong Kong Lunar New Year Culture”. It gathers more than 40 local illustrators who skillfully depict the lively scenes of the New Year in various streets and alleys through their art, capturing the culture of Hong Kong’s Lunar New Year through their drawings.
In addition, the creative market will be held on the first weekend of January 7th and 8th, and the second weekend of January 14th and 15th, at the Event Space on the first floor. The market brings together over 40 different illustrators showcasing their signature creations and limited edition products. Feel free to interact and exchange ideas with the illustrators on-site, and carefully select unique and locally inspired gifts to send meaningful Lunar New Year blessings to your loved ones!
