Director Park Hye-ryung spent ten years tracking and filming the entire journey of Lim Ji-ho’s search for roots and his encounter with Kim Sun-kyu, and made a documentary film about family and food called “The Taste of Filial Piety.” Director Park Hye-ryung followed Lim Ji-ho through fields and mountains, searching for unique and nourishing ingredients in nature, cooking for the destined people they met on the journey, using food to connect the emotions between people.
During the 10-year filming process, the elderly woman Kim Sun-kyu passed away, deeply affecting the famous chef and deepening his endless sighs about “wanting to be filial but parents are not around.” As a result, he spent 3 days cooking continuously, preparing 108 dishes symbolizing the 108 kinds of suffering in Buddhism, reminding everyone of the importance of filial piety in a timely manner.
The touching and tear-jerking “Taste of Filial Piety” has been invited to participate in multiple international film festivals, receiving high praise when screened locally in Korea.
