Joining the “cryptocurrency” craze, Japanese izakaya OKRA in Hong Kong is the first to introduce cryptocurrency payments!

Electronic payment methods have been on the rise in recent years. With the emergence of “NFT” in the art world, it has sparked interest in blockchain technology across different sectors. Even the food and beverage industry has joined the “crypto” trend, such as the Japanese izakaya Okra Hong Kong in Sai Ying Pun, which has recently become the only restaurant in Hong Kong to accept cryptocurrency.

Okra is pioneering a new cryptocurrency payment scheme in Hong Kong, offering secure cryptocurrency settlement services through the cryptocurrency payment processor Trust Wallet. Customers can now pay in Hong Kong dollars equivalent to Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Binance Coin (BNB), Binance USD (BUSD), and Ripple (XRP). When customers check out with cryptocurrency at Okra, they can enjoy a 95% discount on the entire order, with the saved 5% being the standard fee that merchants would have to pay when using a credit card.

Max Levy

Okra was founded by restaurant owner and chef Max Levy, specializing in unconventional fine dishes, grilled delicacies, sashimi, inspired by Japan, Hong Kong, and Max’s hometown of New Orleans, using Japanese cooking techniques and natural ingredients to preserve the original flavors of the ingredients.

Each dish also originates from Max’s travel experiences, such as visiting small-batch sake breweries to source rice koji, and learning how to make Chinese sausages from artisans during travels in the Guangdong region. In addition, Okra also offers natural, unpasteurized sake, bringing a casual Japanese dining experience.
