RIMOWA World Tour “As Seen By” reshapes iconic luggage, landing in Hong Kong for the fourth stop!

German luggage expert RIMOWA recently curated an art exhibition with the theme “As Seen By,” showcasing a series of creative artworks celebrating the legendary story of its aluminum-magnesium alloy suitcases. Following its earlier stops in Paris, Miami, and Seoul, the “As Seen By” global tour has finally arrived at its fourth destination – Hong Kong. The exhibition officially opened at Soho House Hong Kong in Sheung Wan, featuring a collection of exquisite works by artists from around the world.

The series named “As Seen By” was born before the pandemic, with RIMOWA aiming to support artists’ creations. However, after long periods of lockdown measures worldwide, the project has taken on a whole new meaning. During a time when the public cannot travel abroad, the brand took the opportunity to commission different artists to create unique pieces using the iconic aluminum luggage material.

For this exhibition, RIMOWA referenced Gaston Bachelard’s 1958 work “The Poetics of Space,” designing a meaningful structural space for the art exhibition to express the essence of the book: “The house shelters daydreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace” – connecting the core of this creation to the exhibition space, echoing the passion that artists and RIMOWA have devoted to craftsmanship over the years.

“As Seen By” Hong Kong Station exhibition held at the stylish Soho House in Sheung Wan, showcasing artists from around the world including Stockholm, Seoul, Chicago, Warsaw, each known for their outstanding craftsmanship and unique visual expression techniques, using the characteristics and materials of RIMOWA luggage “grooved aluminum-magnesium alloy plate” to create a variety of unique works in different styles, connecting the exhibition with a common visual language.

Furthermore, this time RIMOWA has invited two local artists to participate in the exhibition, namely Gamzar who focuses on traditional craftsmanship and OrangeTerry who excels in transforming everyday objects into new forms, ultimately creating two interesting works titled “Zip3 (folding) Folding Fan” and “OPTIMUM DIMENSION”.

After the conclusion of the Hong Kong “As Seen By” exhibition, it will continue to tour various locations, with each stop focusing on showcasing local artists’ works. The final stop of the tour will return to RIMOWA’s birthplace – Cologne, Germany. Interested friends may take the opportunity to visit the “As Seen By” exhibition to appreciate the various RIMOWA artworks.
