Following the previously popular “MEME Museum” that everyone checked in, K11 Art Mall has recently taken over with a brand new exhibition event. This time, it brings together over a hundred local and international designers to host the “K11 Art Mall Design Fest 2021,” subverting the ordinary definition with the theme “Your Life Can Be Like This Painting,” encouraging everyone to break out of their mundane daily routines!

The “K11 Art Mall Design Fest 2021” brings together over 40 local illustrators for the “normally abnormal” art joint exhibition, curated by Art Explorer, to express the daily lives of creators in an unconventional way. The exhibition is divided into two halves, taking place in September and mid-October, using two different artistic techniques to create completely different feelings. Through techniques such as woodcut printing illustrations, visual murals, and installation art, let’s explore and reflect together on what is considered “normal” and “abnormal”!

The “Normally Abnormal” art exhibition includes 3 main areas. The first is a 7-meter-long giant tunnel where you can admire 23 woodcut oil prints from different illustrators. Woodcut oil printing is an old printing technique that results in pattern misalignment, unevenness, and overlapping ink marks during printing, making each print a unique piece of art. On the first-floor sky bridge of K11 Art Mall, there are 11 additional works on display, including the focus on the famous illustrator Lam Pui’s “Side Effects,” exploring the impact of lifestyle on mental health. Meanwhile, Luk Cheuk-hei’s “My Jet Lag; My Daily Life; Your Weirdness” echoes the exhibition theme through an unusual alternative aesthetic.

At the K11 Art Space, the floor-to-ceiling glass windows have become interactive exhibition areas for the public. The 4 vivid and finely crafted murals on display include Core Lo Art’s “Disguise” featuring amusement park characters and a girl symbolizing a different mindset, Crush Face’s “Actually, Inner Demons Aren’t Scary” depicting the battle of inner demons, Isatisse’s “The Creative Life Pattern Always Makes Office Workers Feel Strange” created with contrasting techniques, and Jason Tommy Illustration’s “Normal Transformation” featuring Little Painted Frog, presenting various values of the city, making people unable to help but stop and savor.

As for the largest exhibition area in chi K11 Art Space, it brings together the works of 15 well-known and emerging artists, including Kafka Poon’s “Paper Tiger,” which uses fragile and thin paper and a fierce tiger image to make people face the fear suppressed in their hearts. The self-taught embroidery artist Xiao Lian Grandma uses banana pieces with black spots to bring out the truth of “gold and jade on the outside, but rotten inside,” exploring the phenomenon of people pretending to be normal, prompting deep reflection.
