Dior Classic Furniture: 17 world-renowned art creation units, reinterpreting the Dior Medallion round back chair

by

Mr. Christian Dior was a sensitive person, with a deep appreciation for everything in the world. In addition to culture, art, French history, furniture design was also a source of inspiration for him – he was particularly fond of chairs.

At the beginning of establishing the brand, he specifically chose a Louis XVI-style round back chair to receive guests at the fashion show, injecting a French elegant aesthetic atmosphere into the venue. During the recent Milan Design Week (Salone del Mobile), Dior invited 17 artistic creation units from different fields around the world to reinterpret this chair, which the brand considers a classic.

17 art creation units from Japan, Italy, South Korea, Lebanon, and France, including Sam Baron, Nacho Carbonell, Pierre Charpin, Dimorestudio, Khaled El Mays, Martino Gamper, Constance Guisset, India Mahdavi, nendo, Joy de Rohan Chabot, Linde Freya Tangelder, Atang Tshikare, Seungjin Yang, Ma Yansong, Jinyeong Yeon, Tokujin Yoshioka, and Pierre Yovanovitch, inject a diverse East-West perspective into this classic chair through their sensitivity to art and culture.

Every artist involved in the creation is internationally renowned, with their works exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. This unprecedented collaboration not only challenges the public’s perception of the round-back chair but also pays tribute to the taste of Mr. Christian Dior.
