Following last year’s collaboration with the creators of classic cartoon characters McDull and McMug, the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Department of Sotheby’s Hong Kong is once again partnering with artist Alice Mak and writer Brian Tse. This year, they are presenting 18 previously unpublished works in celebration of the Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day. Join us and share this warm and joyful moment with the two piglets!
This collection includes different media such as watercolor, colored ink, or oil painting, allowing everyone to follow the footsteps of McDull and McMug, from the platform to the starry sky, together discovering the various possibilities of love. From “Every time I see you, my heart goes PorkPork” to “Holding hands like piglets, growing old together,” let’s all feel the bowlful of happiness that is “Loving snails, loving lotus flowers, loving potatoes, but loving you the most.”
“The Bowl of Happiness” was originally a small book in which McDull introduced traditional auspicious images to children, using many examples of “Daya Zhai” colored porcelain. Not satisfied with that, this time two “Bowls of Happiness” were created in the form of porcelain paintings, full of ancient charm. The two curious little pigs bring surprises and joy to the classical world.
“Every time I see you, my heart goes ‘Pork Pork'” is the largest watercolor paper McDull to date. The richest pork, carrying the richest love! “Me and Myself” is painted with undiluted ink, with pure and intense emotions, just like a silly McDull.
Fans who like these two “silly piglets” may want to seize the opportunity to visit the Sotheby’s Art Space in Hong Kong to appreciate the works. The online auction will take place from January 26th to February 7th, so everyone remember to pay attention!
