Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini has just happily announced that it has been named “the leader in the Italian automotive industry” and “one of the top three best employers in Italy” by the world’s top human resources service agency Ranstad, once again confirming the brand’s top position in the industry and country. In addition, there is another piece of news that recently came out, indicating that the factory is expected to introduce an upgraded version of the Lamborghini Urus later this year.
Since its debut, the Urus has been recognized as one of the most powerful SUVs on the market, setting various speed and performance records. Recently, there have been reports that with the rapid development of electrification in the industry, the manufacturer will soon introduce a new electric version of this model. It wasn’t until the well-known automotive magazine “The Drive” recently sat down with Lamborghini’s design director Mitja Borkert to discuss various topics that some clues were revealed on this topic, but his sharing may disappoint some people.
Mitja Borkert shared: “The Urus will eventually become an electric car… To be honest, considering the current global automotive emission regulations and social acceptance, this (electrification) trend will definitely develop in this direction. However, I am not saying that the Urus will go electric now, but for this type of car, electrification seems more reasonable.” Although Mitja Borkert did not directly respond to the rumor, it is certain that an electrified Urus is not just a rumor, but definitely one of the manufacturer’s goals. However, from Mitja Borkert’s tone, it can be inferred that the upgraded version to be released by the end of the year will not be centered around electrification.
Furthermore, considering that CEO Stephan Winkelmann has stated that every effort will be made to preserve the traditional internal combustion engines of the car manufacturer, it means that the top executives in Sant’Agata Bolognese will still focus on the development of traditional engines. Moreover, he also mentioned that there will be significant investments exceeding 15 billion euros before 2024, indicating that the electric version of the Urus will not be launched in the short term.
