As one of the world’s oldest watch manufacturers, Vacheron Constantin, in collaboration with Crafts on Peel, presents the art exhibition “Eternal Connection | Co-creation: The Metal Craft of Master Liao Wing Cheong and Lin Fan Sheng.” It tells the story of the inheritance and innovation of two generations of artists, showcasing the deep connection and exquisite craftsmanship between Master Liao Wing Cheong and his disciple Lin Fan Sheng over 12 years.
Master craftsman Liao Rongxiang, who has always loved nature and treated others kindly, has over sixty years of experience. He has always been meticulous in his bronze casting career, approaching each creation with a passionate attitude day after day. “Make friends with failure” is his motto, a reminder that contemporary people need to keep in mind. Master Liao loves to observe nature for inspiration, as seen in his work “Green Thoughts,” which combines cacti and sea urchins in a simple yet intriguing way that is both contradictory and harmonious.
More terrifying than having talent is being a player who not only has talent but is also willing to put in the effort, and Lin Fansheng is exactly that. He is very good at observing and strongly believes that everything can be sorted out through careful observation. Upholding his unique artistic vision and traditional techniques, he gives new life to his works. The collaboration piece “Eternal Light: Journey Through Time” with Jaeger-LeCoultre is inspired by the wisdom of the twenty-four solar terms, drawing inspiration from the eternal concept of the sundial – an artistic installation that calculates time by tracking the movement of the sun.
In the exhibition, not only Master Liao’s works are displayed, but also the collaborative results with his sculptor apprentice Lin Fansheng. Audiences will personally experience the bond between these craftsmen across generations. The exhibits “Spring Breeze and Rain,” “Tracing Origins,” “The Vigil of Cypress Trees,” and “Dragon Dance Fragrance” document the unique artistic creations between master and apprentice through observation and imagination.
With the same pursuit of heritage and innovation, as well as the continuation of craftsmanship and art, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Piaget once again collaborate. Through this exhibition, it brings out the passion and persistence for eternal art and endless pursuit of perfection, echoing the harmonious combination of traditional and innovative metal artworks by Master Liu and Lin Fansheng, embodying the craftsmanship spirit that transcends generations. Each piece is filled with poetry and imagination, allowing the audience to appreciate art while also experiencing the profound cultural heritage of Hong Kong such as tea, floral art, and incense.
Liao Rong wants to collide with Master’s delicate craftsmanship and Lin Fansheng’s creativity, forming an amazing artistic spark, showing the indelible bond between master and apprentice. Once again highlighting the excellence and heritage of Hong Kong craftsmanship. This exhibition is not only a tribute to the works of the two artists, but also a tribute to the spirit of craftsmanship. During the process of visiting the exhibition, the audience will deeply appreciate that Hong Kong’s traditional craftsmanship has injected new vitality and hope. The exhibition will be held from now until August 3 at Pao Galleries, 11 Peel Street, Central.
