Embark on an exploration journey! Tudor “Arctic Greenland Expedition” exhibition pays tribute to the spirit of adventure.

by

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the British North Greenland Expedition. In 1952, the expedition set off from the Thames River in London and embarked on a two-year scientific research mission to Greenland. The team members were wearing the first self-winding waterproof wristwatch, the Oyster Prince, launched by Tudor at that time. In tribute to them, Tudor has specially launched the Ranger series this year.

To celebrate the occasion, the brand held an exhibition called “Tudor Dare to Explore: The Greenland Expedition” in Central, paying tribute to the expedition team and the watches they wore. The exhibition not only showcased some of the relevant files from the expedition, but the brand also specially transported the Oyster Prince model 7808 watches that the expedition team wore 70 years ago from Geneva, as well as a series of classic watches with decades of history.

Considering the extremely cold temperatures in the polar region, the watches used in this test are specially lubricated with “Arctic” oil and equipped with strap extension parts so that the explorers can wear the watches outside their heavy coats. After returning from Greenland, one of the explorers wrote a letter to Rolex, stating that their watch could “maintain excellent accuracy” and “never need manual winding”, and this letter has been cherished in the brand’s archives.
