In late last month, Audemars Piguet announced at a press conference – confirming a collaboration project with Marvel – making this independent pre-Watches & Wonders 2021 launch event a big surprise, even more significant than the brand’s 16 latest designs, including the iconic Royal Oak series with a jade green dial.
On the day, Audemars Piguet CEO François-Henry Bennahmias only briefly shared the origin of the collaboration idea, and the brand has just confirmed that the project details will be revealed independently on April 10, unveiling the heavyweight crossover collaboration in detail, and the brand will live stream through the official website, at 11 p.m. Hong Kong time.
Looking back on the press conference, François-Henry Bennahmias shared that the plan was fortunate to have old friend Don Cheadle, who played “War Machine” in the “Marvel” series, to help bring this dream, which had been brewing for 15 years, to fruition in 2017.
He also pointed out that this collaboration was inspired by legendary watch designer Gerald Genta, who in the 1980s created different designs based on cartoon characters, prompting Audemars Piguet to pay tribute to a new generation of heroes who bring inspiration and revelation to the world. It is worth noting that the website has already revealed that a rare watch auction will be held during the live broadcast that evening, and it is believed that the items up for auction will be related to the different designs created by Gerald Genta based on cartoon characters in the 1980s mentioned above.
As for the collaboration project between Audemars Piguet and Marvel, it will involve creative and developmental aspects, including the brand’s sponsorship with non-profit organizations First Book and Ashoka to support young people in improving their communities.
