by

The Prada Fall/Winter 2024 collection, co-directed by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, embeds historical fragments into fashion, exploring the contemporary world shaped by memories. There is a romanticism in reminiscing the past, where clothing represents different eras, resonating with other times and reinterpreting them.

The series is not about testing how well you know history, but about expressing emotions that still resonate with aesthetics. Classic clothing such as the Iron Rider Jacket, Pilot Jacket, and knitted sweaters appear on the catwalk, all pieced together by traditional elements combined with ever-changing lines and details. The elements integrated into other clothing, the clothing outlined around the body, stripped of superficiality to reveal the true essence, reflect historical fragments.

Footwear and headwear are pushed to extremes in proportion, while clothing fits closely to the body, revealing femininity. Traditional menswear materials are reshaped to reveal the essence of femininity, and elements commonly used in women’s clothing such as bows, trims, and ruffles are reevaluated for their significance. Why have they stood the test of time? Prada, in this fashion show, is posing questions and engaging in responses through design, sparking dialogue with the world. This innate desire for communication and expression is a fundamental human desire.
