Fendi’s Fall/Winter 2024 women’s collection continues to explore the relaxed and confident way of dressing, combining London’s rebelliousness with Rome’s freedom. The collection is practical yet glamorous, simple yet extravagant; it embodies both middle-class intellect and down-to-earth street style, connecting tradition with innovation. The old English style is combined with contemporary Roman fashion, mixing various elements in the clothing. Women who wear these clothes have a true sense of self, refusing to conform to stereotypes, living life on their own terms.
The collection opens with sharply tailored suits. The undulating curves outline a graceful silhouette, highlighting the rich texture of fine wool and precise lines. Layered wool coats casually cinched with a belt exude a relaxed style. Knits present two effects, either smooth like a second layer of silk or traditional English textures like Aran and Guernsey. Utility jumpsuits embody the style of tailored suits, combining practicality and elegance, with a strong essence contrasting with delicate chiffon and organza; Roman statue prints or polka dot embroidery embellish these sheer fabrics. Meanwhile, cashmere and leather stand out, showcasing Fendi’s craftsmanship through intricate techniques while subverting traditional expectations.
When mentioning the inspiration for the series, Kim Jones said: “At that time, I was looking at the 1984 Fendi collection data, those sketches reminded me of London at the same time: the Blitz Kids culture of nightclubs, new romantic electronic music, workwear trends, aristocratic styles, Japanese influences… It was the era when British subcultures and fashion trends invaded the world and absorbed nutrients from various countries. But British elegance still maintains a sense of ease and composure, ignoring the gaze of others, coinciding with Fendi in Rome. In its historical context, practicality has always had a place. The Fendi family’s clothing style also includes practical elements. I remember the first time I met Silvia Venturini Fendi, she was wearing an elegant and fashionable jumpsuit, reminiscent of hunting attire. My impression of Fendi basically stems from this scene: I believe it is about how women can reveal their fundamental personalities through dressing up, while enjoying the fun in it.”
