Maison Margiela 2022/2023 Autumn/Winter Haute Couture Collection, Western Cowboy Fantasia

by

Under the leadership of Creative Director John Galliano, Maison Margiela collaborated with the British theater group Imitating the Dog this season to present the brand’s haute couture collection in the form of a stage play, staging a real-time film called “CINEMA INFERNO” in Paris, telling a romantic story intertwined with love and hatred in a Western style.

John Galliano draws inspiration from movies and theater for this collection, reminiscent of classic films like “Bonnie Elizabeth Parker” and “Kill Bill”; while Maison Margiela’s version focuses on a couple, combining elements of road movies and horror films, featuring evil family members and gunfight scenes, blending classic movie clichés into fashion.

In the collection, you can see John Galliano creating ethereal chiffon skirts by layering thin layers of chiffon; you can also see high fashion menswear made from fabrics covered in fine sparkles. The designs mix innovative textures, some of which are garments treated with sand, while others are inspired by Hollywood’s golden age chiffon gowns and sculptural coats, even though the number of looks in the entire collection is not large, they leave a lasting impression.
