Pierpaolo Piccioli presented the Valentino Fall/Winter 2021 Haute Couture Collection at the Arsenale in Venice yesterday, using the venue of the “Venice Biennale” as the show’s location, clearly indicating to fashion enthusiasts that this is a fashion collection inseparable from art.
The Venetian Arsenal was built between 1568 and 1573, consisting of two shipyards. It was once the largest shipbuilding base and is now the main venue for the global art event – the Venice Biennale.
In Venice, a city rich in art and culture, Pierpaolo Piccioli held a grand show, injecting art and culture into this season’s haute couture designs. The theme of this season is “Valentino Des Ateliers,” highlighting the connection between art and fashion. Pierpaolo Piccioli collaborated with 16 painters, including Anastasia Bay, Joel S. Allen, Katrin Bremermann, Guglielmo Castelli, Luca Coser, Francis Offman, and more, using their paintings as inspiration for haute couture pieces, transforming them into a series of “walking artworks.”
In addition to incorporating the art of painting into haute couture design, Pierpaolo Piccioli also makes color, the most important element in art, the main focus of the collection. From the beginning to the end of the show, whether it’s the three-dimensional mini skirts, dresses with feather details, or the elegant gowns loved by female celebrities, a large amount of bright colors are used, even breaking through the heavy atmosphere of autumn and winter with eye-catching neon colors.
The color is prominent, and the cut is equally full of highlights. The simple and smooth clothing silhouette is added with three-dimensional cuts such as bubble sleeves and pleats, and then embellished with agile and elegant feathers, retaining an elegant and dreamy texture in modern design.
