#2021 Haute Couture Fashion Week: Embracing the legendary Karl Lagerfeld, Kim Jones’ first FENDI haute couture collection brings many creative surprises

The whole city is looking forward to it, the Fendi 2021 spring/summer haute couture collection finally unveiled last night at Palais Brongniart. The design style has always been modern and avant-garde, and from this first FENDI collection, it is clear that Kim Jones is both subversive and ambitious. With his influence, he enlisted all his supermodel friends to walk the show, Bella Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Kate Moss and her daughter Lila Grace Moss, the long-unseen Demi Moore, and the show-stopping Naomi Campbell… all joined this moment worth recording.

This season, inspired by the famous British writer and pioneer of modernism and feminism, #VirginiaWoolf, he transformed the runway into a transparent glass maze, reminiscent of the maze surrounded by greenery mentioned in the novel. “Orlando” can be seen as Virginia Woolf’s love letter to her same-sex friend Vita Sackville-West. From the series, it is clear that Kim Jones has abandoned some of the traditional haute couture elements such as the use of fur, and introduced new elements: transcending time and having male models walk the runway in haute couture women’s clothing… in various ways that are both gender-fluid, romantic, and vintage, presenting the FENDI haute couture collection anew.

A total of 19 looks were released, exuding a kind of Bridgerton style, with a romantic vintage vibe permeating the flowing marble-patterned clothing, paired with dangling long earring decorations, showcasing FENDI’s luxury. One noteworthy design is the appearance of a half suit half skirt outfit this season, a combination that once coexisted in the hands of the late Karl Lagerfeld. Kim paid tribute to this in the current show, turning Lagerfeld’s 1993 sketch into reality. This design also symbolizes the protagonist’s transcendent journey from male to female in the story of “Orlando.” Kim not only used male models in the women’s haute couture, but they were dressed identically to the female models, deliberately blurring gender stereotypes. Red lips, waves, wrapping their unique selves in soft silk-like fabrics, giving them infinite power.

From the details of clothing, you can also experience a kind of classical romantic mood, such as the appearance of exquisite vintage clutch bags with metal-bound book handbags, the bronze-like metallic color fills the sense of the 20th century era. Other handbags are made from velvet fabric with tassels, hand-beaded craftsmanship, and rivets, creating a different sense of matching, the small design is still extremely elegant.

The large earrings stand out in the overall look, resembling chandeliers and bringing a fluid aesthetic, echoing the Bloomsbury-style romance of the elite in the British literary and artistic circles of the last century. Different earring styles are mainly centered around the design theme of marble patterns, complemented by intricate beaded hair accessories on the model’s head, perfectly embodying the luxury and romanticism of haute couture fashion.
