Louis Vuitton 2021 Spring/Summer Collection: A New Definition of Neutrality

Gender neutrality is one of the most discussed topics in the fashion industry in recent years, and this season designers have been gradually moving towards gender-neutral clothing design. Nicolas Ghesquière presented the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2021 collection yesterday, which is also a part of this trend.

The presentation took place on the top floor of the La Samaritaine department store, which has not yet officially opened after renovation. In an environment filled with elegant French architectural style, interspersed with green screen special effects, projecting the 1987 classic film “Wings of Desire” by Wim Wenders, presenting a wonderful effect of moving between film and reality.

The inspiration for the series also comes from “Wings of Desire”, bringing the shoulder pads, sequins, and wide-leg pants that were once popular in the 1980s into the spring and summer of 2021. The design style of the era, combined with clean tailoring and elements that fit street pop culture, creates a look that erases gender boundaries and breaks stereotypes.

Mixing different materials and printed patterns is a common style this season. Adding pleated twill fabric to wide-leg pants with a casual feel, paired with a nylon thick belt, instantly adds a design element to everyday pants.

In addition, there are eye-catching sequins, literary knitwear, high-cold black and white marble patterns, and brightly colored text prints running through the entire gender-neutral spring/summer collection.
