Bottega Veneta collaborates with artist Gaetano Pesce to create resin chairs and limited edition books.

Interested in getting your hands on a “seat” at the Bottega Veneta fashion show?

The 2023 Spring/Summer fashion show, held during Milan Fashion Week in September, was the second collection under the creative direction of Matthieu Blazy. It brought many surprises, including the appearance of supermodel Kate Moss and the collaboration with Italian architect, artist, and designer Gaetano Pesce for artistic creations. The show featured sculptural resin flooring and 400 unique seats called “Come Stai?” which are like works of art. Now, these chairs will be available for sale at the exhibition site in Miami’s Design District.

Come Stai? is Gaetano Pesce’s first original chair series in many years. The series is made from traditional cotton canvas material, dyed and molded in colored liquid resin. The design is rich and colorful, with some chairs adorned with hand-painted patterns. Each chair is unique, and the brand has specially invited supermodel Kate Moss to interpret it.

Gaetano Pesce said, “This is a space that pays tribute to diversity. It is a human-centered universe; each and every one of us is unique. There are always people who think we are all the same – nonsense! Every person possesses uniqueness, and this quality determines who we are. Otherwise, we would just be replicas of others. Each person is an unparalleled original creation, and this is also one of my design themes.”

The brand will continue this collaboration at Design Miami, presenting a stunning exhibition featuring the Come Stai? chair from November 30th to December 4th. The chairs will be available for purchase at the exhibition, and some chairs are currently available for sale on the brand’s official website. Each chair is numbered and features a hand-painted “Gaetano Pesce for Bottega Veneta” signature, making it a highly collectible item.

During the exhibition, there will also be an artist talk titled “We Are All Different, and This Is Our Defining Quality.” To commemorate this project, Bottega Veneta’s Creative Director, Matthieu Blazy, collaborated with artist Gaetano Pesce to publish a limited edition collectible book called “Come Stai?”

The limited edition book will present a deep conversation between Gaetano Pesce and renowned curator Hans Ulrich Obrist, exploring the ideas, methods, and processes behind their collaboration. It will dissect the intricate connections between Pesce and Blazy in terms of creative practice and values, including the origins of this collaborative project and its significance in Pesce’s career. Additionally, photographers Stephen Shore and Sander Muylaert vividly depict the development and production process of these chairs through imagery. It is worth mentioning that the book design draws inspiration from the shape and materials of Come Stai?, presenting a unique appearance and cover texture, just like the Come Stai? series chairs. Each book is truly one-of-a-kind.
