TAG Heuer collaborates with Kith to revive 80s classic watches.

by

Since its debut in 1986, TAG Heuer’s first Formula 1 (F1) watch series has been a pioneering work. The eye-catching color schemes and bold designs of the watch have made it the first choice for many watch enthusiasts who later became loyal collectors, including Ronnie Fieg, the founder of the American trend brand Kith. Today, TAG Heuer and Kith officially collaborate to bring back this watch using new and more sophisticated materials.

The two embarked on a avant-garde collaboration journey, re-launching the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Series 1, which was originally introduced in 1986. Drawing inspiration from TAG Heuer’s various outstanding watches over the years, they brought a series of 10 different color designs to this beloved piece. This 80s classic re-launched by TAG Heuer and Kith showcases a distinct design language and striking color choices. Kith founder Ronnie Fieg started with the red and black TAG Heuer Formula 1 (F1) series watch, becoming a passionate collector of high-end vintage watches.

Kith retains the beloved aspects of the original work, while upgrading the materials to bring the design to 2024, ensuring that the new work embodies the original spirit of the watch is a key requirement. We traced the supplier of the original watch case and found the same set of molds used in 1986 to make watches, which means that the new work is closely linked to the watches that collectors fell in love with decades ago. The classic original used plastic crystal for the watch glass, while the new work uses sapphire crystal. The strap has also been upgraded from plastic to rubber. In addition, Kith has incorporated many details into the new work, including charming color combinations and a new version of the logo that combines the words “Kith” and “Heuer,” visible on the dial, rubber strap, and case back. The dial is also adorned with the Kith brand motto “Just Us” as a tribute to the insiders in the Fieg world. The two exclusive creations, limited to 825 pieces each, are presented in vibrant green and blue, with the color scheme extending from the bezel to the strap, complemented by a black physical vapor deposition (PVD) coated case and black dial. Another series of focus is limited to 1350 pieces, featuring a classic black bezel with red accents. The stainless steel bracelet design paired with an eggshell dial evokes memories of the 1986 model, achieving a clever combination of modern features and nostalgic aesthetics.
