Tiffany & Co. launched the Time for Speed mechanical clock series last year with a race car design, and this year they have created a new vintage taxi-inspired clock, with a delicate and adorable design that resembles a work of art!
This Tiffany Taxi is inspired by the iconic taxis of 1950s New York, with its Tiffany Blue body and wheel accents, and eye-catching aluminum rear spoiler. The clock features two independent movements, each with its own power source, with the first movement located in the “driver’s seat” responsible for displaying the time. The top of the engine houses dual carburetors, and a rotating stainless steel disc with an air filter displays the hours and minutes. The eight-day movement is regulated by a 2.5 Hz escapement located in the “driver’s helmet,” while the main spring that provides power can be seen in the “co-pilot’s seat.”
The second movement powers the engine. The key on the dial can start the engine, triggering the up and down movement of the V8 pistons, while the time display runs separately. By using the manual gear lever, you can wind the time display movement, wind the engine, or put it in neutral. Winding is as simple as pulling the car backwards and rotating the three-spoke steering wheel counterclockwise to set the time. From its appearance to its operation, every detail of Tiffany Blue is filled with ingenious details.
Tiffany Taxi will be available at Tiffany stores, with a special edition Tiffany Taxi exclusively available at The Landmark store. The gold and blue “license plate” is printed with “NY-727” as a tribute to its iconic flagship store landmark at 727 Fifth Avenue in New York City.
