Louis Vuitton has created an automatic doll watch inspired by Einstein in response to this year’s “Only Watch” charity watch auction.
The dial combines micro-carving and gray enamel craftsmanship, bringing Einstein’s appearance to life. The left side of the character’s face is filled with text similar to chalk writing, and one of the formulas E=LV2 cleverly echoes Einstein’s famous mass-energy equivalence formula E=mc2; his signature fluffy hair is carved from stainless steel and extends to the outside of the case, with one strand of hair serving as a trigger device.
When activated, the holes in Einstein’s forehead will change to display the numbers 1 to 12 for the hours; the atomic model in the bottom left corner of the dial will rotate, with the painted tip moving to the appropriate position to display the minutes. Einstein’s monogram flower eyes will narrow, revealing the highly precise mechanical structure behind them. Finally, he will stick out his tongue, adding a playful touch.
In addition, when the movement’s 100-hour power reserve is about to run out, the original LV logo will change to OW, reminding the wearer to wind the watch, and also representing the abbreviation for Only Watch charity auction.
