This March’s “Art Month” not only has many exhibitions worth appreciating, but even watches are adding an artistic touch! Swatch recently launched a new capsule collection, transforming the classic works of several art masters into playful and fashionable watches!
Swatch recreates a variety of “art watches” with its iconic Gent and New Gent models, with the main focus being on the brand’s collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the commemoration of American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. Two watches feature Lichtenstein’s blonde girl from his artwork, incorporating a comic art style and monochromatic accents, creating a playful feeling.
The surrealist paintings of René Magritte have become wrist art, with Swatch incorporating the pipe from his painting “La trahison des images” into their watch design. They have also created another watch featuring the figure wearing a bowler hat from “Le fils de l’homme,” with the face of the figure covered by a green apple. The watch strap is inscribed with “Ceci est une Swatch avec une pomme” (This is a Swatch with an apple), adding a touch of humor and playfulness.
Another Prussian blue Swatch watch collaborated with the Louvre Abu Dhabi, featuring the famous woodblock print “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” by the Japanese ukiyo-e master Katsushika Hokusai. The front of the dial and strap depict the peak of the waves using perspective, while the bottom of the watch is adorned with celestial elements.
Stored in the Uffizi Gallery, Sandro Botticelli’s masterpiece, “Allegoria de la primavera” (Spring), can now be worn on the wrist! Various plants depicted in the painting adorn the entire Swatch watch, with the strap embellished with the goddess of flowers, Flora.
Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus” became the design for another watch, with the wind god Zephyr blowing a gentle breeze on the dial, and Aura gently pushing Venus towards the shore. The strap is adorned with Venus’s flawless face and pink roses, exuding a delicate and beautiful feeling.
