The international film event, the Oscars, recently came to a perfect close. In addition to the many award-winning films and the glamorous figures of the stars, there is also the silent blessing of ROLEX watches, which are not only eye-catching accessories on the wrists of the stars, but also witness unforgettable moments for them.
This year marks the 6th consecutive year that ROLEX has sponsored the Oscars, and the brand has always had a deep connection with the art of film. Since 2017, when they began collaborating with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, they have become the official timepiece of the Academy, as well as the exclusive sponsor of the Oscars honorary awards and the Governors Awards ceremony, including the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and the Oscar Lifetime Achievement Award, paying tribute to outstanding figures in the film industry.
ROLEX took inspiration from Hollywood and its major film studios this year to redesign the Greenroom backstage at the awards ceremony. The decorative art style walls combine ROLEX’s latest advertisements, recreating famous landmarks in the film industry in mosaic form. Pay close attention, and you will discover the clever integration of various elements of ROLEX watches, such as hour markers, hands, and triangular pit patterns, echoing the brand’s craftsmanship in watchmaking.
In addition to the Oscars, ROLEX has also accompanied movie stars on the big screen, with the presence of ROLEX watches in many classic movie scenes. For example, the first Oyster waterproof watch invented by Hans Wilsdorf in 1926 appeared in the talkie film “Jazz Star” a few months after its debut. Renowned directors Martin Scorsese and James Cameron have also served as brand ambassadors, infusing the watches with exquisite craftsmanship and aesthetics, adding a touch of personality to each legendary figure in the film industry.
In addition, ROLEX is also the founding sponsor of the Oscar Film Museum, dedicated to preserving precious film collections. The museum officially opened in the film capital of Los Angeles last September, showcasing film props, scripts, costumes, and other exhibits. The 3rd floor of the museum even has a Rolex exhibition area. The exhibition “Legends of Light and Shadow” presents film production techniques from various perspectives, while “Conceptual World and Characters” uses models, film costumes, and animation celluloid to present the process of making a film from conception to completion to the public. It is evident that the brand spares no effort in promoting the art of film, allowing the development of film to go even further.
