Swatch has always been keen to collaborate with major art galleries. Recently, the brand has teamed up with the famous French museum, the Pompidou Center, to select 6 precious collections from legendary artists including Frida Kahlo, Amedeo Modigliani, Robert Delaunay, Robert Delaunay, and Piet Mondrian, to redesign highly artistic and fashionable watches, which art lovers will surely adore!
Actually, Swatch launched a museum series in 2018, collaborating with the National Museum of the Netherlands, the Thyssen Museum in Spain, the Louvre in Paris, and the Museum of Modern Art MoMA in New York. Through official authorization from these museums, they condensed masterpieces from around the world onto watches, allowing everyone to collect iconic works of art. This collaboration with one of the world’s largest modern art collections, the Pompidou Center, is highly anticipated.
Upon closer inspection of each watch, we can see that Swatch has ingeniously integrated the essence of the artwork into the design. In the Frida Kahlo “The Frame” design, the brand reinterprets the self-portrait of this artist in a mirrored manner. The front of the watch brings vibrant colors, perfectly matching the pink color at the bottom of the strap.
Paying homage to the geometric master Piet Mondrian, the “Red, Blue And White” watch accurately depicts the original artwork’s color tones, paired with a matte black dial and oversized hands.
This series brings two paintings by French artist Robert Delaunay, including “Carousel” and “Eiffel Tower.” The artist is known for his strong colors and geometric shapes, with his depiction of the Paris landmark vibrant and three-dimensional. Incorporating his iconic series into watch design, the artist’s admiration for this Parisian landmark is reinterpreted. The dials, straps, and hands of the two watches use vibrant colors, exuding a lively atmosphere.
Amedeo Modigliani’s “The Portrait of Dédie” pays tribute to the artist’s iconic portrait. The watch strap features the artist’s signature, the dial has a metallic finish, and the case, buckle, strap loop, and hands are presented in a unique pink color.
Vassily Kandinsky’s “Blue Sky” style continues the artist’s fascination with blue, showcasing Kandinsky’s deep and textured painting techniques, and featuring many interesting characters depicted in the original painting.
The Swatch X Centre Pompidou series is now available at Swatch stores and online shops. If you are interested, why not get one and add a touch of art to your daily life!
