The winners of the “Oscars of the Watchmaking Industry,” the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), were recently announced. Piaget was awarded the “Aiguille d’Or” at the 20th edition of the GPHG for their Altiplano Ultimate Concept watch. Known as the highest honor in the luxury watchmaking industry, the “Aiguille d’Or” is presented to the best timepiece among all the competing watches.
This open-faced design wristwatch has a thickness of only 2mm, thinner than many movements, making it a groundbreaking timepiece in the watch industry, considered the world’s thinnest mechanical wristwatch. Piaget took only 2 years to turn the watch from concept into a product ready for mass production and sale, showcasing an admirable level of craftsmanship. Due to the complex production process, only 3 pieces can be made in a year.
