Continuing the poetic Le Jardin de Chaumet high jewelry collection of 2023, the new collection “Un Air de Chaumet” also showcases the extraordinary craftsmanship of the brand’s high jewelry production. Under the exquisite skills of the craftsmen, the different flying postures of birds in the air are vividly presented. Headpieces with multiple ways of wearing are as delicate and light as feathers, while brooches and earrings embody the charm of modern poetry and free pairing.
As the official jeweler of Empress Josephine, brand founder Nitot and his son François-Regnault, like the Empress, have a fondness for birds. Chaumet has continuously used birds as a creative theme over the years, from Jules Fossin’s observation and study of bird heads and legs, to Prosper Morel’s exquisitely crafted peacock feather jewelry created around 1870, which can be worn as a brooch or transformed into a crown.
In the early 20th century, Joseph Chaumet’s realistic wing-shaped crown and hummingbird egret feather brooch were equally stunning. The latter utilized Chaumet’s signature fil couteau craftsmanship and trompe-l’oeil effect. His creations showcased the delicate elegance of gilded feathers from the 60s and 70s, depicting birds perched on blooming pearl branches and kingfishers soaring through the sky, creating unparalleled masterpieces. Today, the Un Air de Chaumet series captures the graceful postures of four flying birds, forming a duet to showcase birds soaring with outstretched wings. The designer skillfully uses gilded feathers to outline the elegant posture of a swallow in flight, followed by the resolute will circling the sky, intertwining two completely different dynamics to create a unique beauty.
