“In this latest top jewelry collection dedicated to herringbone tweed, I hope to further interpret the lightweight and soft characteristics of herringbone tweed fabric using precious gemstones.”
— CHANEL Jewelry Creative Studio Director Patrice Leguéreau
Following 2020, Chanel once again takes inspiration from tweed fabric and Patrice Leguéreau, the director of the jewelry creative studio, has created the 2023 “Tweed de Chanel” high jewelry collection. After London, Seoul, and Taipei, the collection’s launch event has arrived in Hong Kong, where the brand has transformed the West Kowloon Cultural District’s Freespace into the world of “Tweed de Chanel,” divided into three major areas to showcase a series of stunning masterpieces!
Transcending time and space
Tweed suits, Little Black Dress, striped shirts, 2.55 handbags… These timeless classics are actually a fashion revolution sparked by Mademoiselle Gabrielle Chanel. She rejected conventional norms and brought about a subversive movement. In 2020, Chanel gathered the waves of the era that Mademoiselle Chanel had stirred in the fashion and jewelry world, and launched the first high jewelry collection inspired by “tweed” fabric called “Tweed de Chanel”. In 2023, they further introduced a new “Tweed de Chanel” high jewelry collection, incorporating five important elements from the Chanel world: “ribbon”, “camellia”, “comet”, “sun”, and “lion”, in white, pink, blue, gold, and red colors respectively. With new jewelry weaving techniques, it fully expresses the timeless charm of tweed fabric that transcends time and style.

High-end jewelry crafted with love
Mademoiselle Chanel’s lifelong love for the Duke of Westminster, a member of the British upper class, not only nourished her soul but also inspired her creative spirit. This love story marked the beginning of Chanel’s iconic fabric, tweed. This warm woven fabric originated from the cold climate of Scotland and was named after the River Tweed on the Scottish border. Later, the tweed jacket became an essential leisure item in the wardrobes of the British upper class men. Mademoiselle Chanel, introduced to this comfortable and stylish fabric by the Duke of Westminster, was determined to bring it into the daily lives of women. With her elegant and delicate design techniques, she made the tweed jacket more tailored to the female silhouette, creating a legendary chapter in fashion.
Series of diverse styles
Chanel transforms the versatile herringbone tweed pattern into precious jewelry art with its new “Tweed de Chanel” high jewelry collection for 2023. Patrice Leguéreau, the Creative Studio Director of the brand’s jewelry, not only draws inspiration from the rich craftsmanship of herringbone tweed but also cleverly combines decorations such as pearls, tassels, and embroidery, which are often used in Chanel fashion and haute couture, to create 64 groundbreaking high jewelry pieces. As Patrice Leguéreau said, “My dream is to create works of art with precious gemstones that resemble herringbone tweed fabric.”
In the name of the lion
“The Tweed de Chanel” collection’s representative work, “Tweed Royal,” cleverly combines herringbone tweed, lion heads, and chain decorations, bringing in the lucky symbol of “lion” that Chanel sees as power and belief. The necklace has a gold woven edging, with intricate and exquisite yellow gold woven chains, adorned with inlaid diamonds and 37 rubies. The lion head in the center of the necklace can be detached and transformed into a brooch or worn together with the necklace. The dazzling 10.17-carat DFL Type IIa pear-cut diamond adorning the lion head can also be detached and worn separately as a ring. This also echoes Coco Chanel’s visionary vision of combining different cultures and aesthetic styles, and the chain is also an important decorative detail on Chanel’s herringbone tweed suit.
Fashionable and versatile
CHANEL’s high-end jewelry is always filled with fashionable contours. The asymmetric shape of the Tweed Ruban collection creates a seemingly unbounded herringbone fabric, presenting a more casual style. In addition, the design of the striped necklace leaves a deep impression, including the Tweed Dentelle and Tweed Cambon collections, which are constructed with a large number of metal components, soft and flowing like a fabric scarf. The Tweed Camélia necklace, adorned with gradient pink and blue sapphires, is also a remarkable piece that cannot be ignored.
In order to fully showcase the beauty of gemstones, CHANEL’s jewelry craftsmen have applied their newly researched techniques to the new “TWEED DE CHANEL” collection. The collection features micro-chain and ring designs made of yellow gold and platinum, allowing each piece to exhibit a soft and flexible structure. The interweaving of gemstones creates a diagonal pattern with delicate and lightweight tassels, presenting a transparent and high-quality atmosphere. This not only signifies the precious value of tweed, but also serves as a reminder of Gabrielle Chanel’s message to women: to stay true to themselves, break free from constraints, and be free to be themselves.
