The 41st Hong Kong Film Awards ceremony will be held tomorrow, April 16th. Over the past year, local film box office has been strong, so this year’s competition has also attracted a lot of attention from fans. There are a total of 33 films nominated for various awards this year, with “Paradox” leading the way with a whopping 16 nominations, while “Detective Chinatown 2,” “Operation Red Sea,” and “Tomorrow Is Another Day” also received 11 nominations each.
And the most anticipated ones, of course, are the winners of the Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best New Actor awards. This article will select the above-mentioned popular awards and list this year’s hot predictions with everyone!
Best movie
This year, there are five films competing for the “Best Film Award”, including “Justice Corridor”, “Tomorrow’s War”, “Detective Battle”, “Narrow Road Dust”, and “To My 19-Year-Old Self”. The film “Justice Corridor”, directed by emerging director He Jue Tian, has received a total of 16 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, etc., making it the most talked-about film of this year!
“The White Storm” is adapted from the “Tai Kok Tsui double murder case” that occurred in Hong Kong in 2013. Due to its bloody subject matter, it only made 200,000 Hong Kong dollars at the box office when it was first released. However, the film later made a successful comeback thanks to unanimous praise from audiences, topping the daily box office for four consecutive days. To date, it has accumulated 43 million Hong Kong dollars, a remarkable achievement, leading everyone to speculate that it will win this award in a highly anticipated manner!

Best Actress
This year’s Best Actress nominees include Su Yuhua (A Legitimate Corridor), Mao Shunyun (Grandma Has a Second), Sammi Cheng (Flowing Flowers), Yuan Lilin (Narrow Road Dust), and Sylvia Chang (Lanterns at Dusk). This year, Sammi Cheng has been nominated for Best Actress for the tenth time, but unfortunately, she has never won in the past. This time, her role as a foster mother in the film has left a deep impression on people. Earlier, she won Best Actress at the 29th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards for this role. If she can win at the Hong Kong Film Awards, it will be even more fulfilling.
In addition, there is also high anticipation for “Sister Zhang” Zhang Aijia. Zhang Aijia has previously won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actress twice for her outstanding performances in “July Rhapsody” and “Forever and Ever”. This time, it has been 17 years since she last competed for the Best Actress award at the Hong Kong Film Awards with Sammi. It makes people even more excited to see the results! Sammi also mentioned in a previous interview that Sister Zhang personally called to congratulate her on the nomination, indicating that their relationship is quite good.
Best Actor
This year’s Best Actor nominations include Ma Peidong (A Legitimate Corridor), Yang Weilun (A Legitimate Corridor), Wong Chau-sang (Youth of the Beast), Lau Ching-wan (The Great Detective War), and Nicholas Tse (Narrow Road, Dusty Journey). Earlier, Wong Chau-sang won the Best Actor award at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards for his performance in “Youth of the Beast”. Whether he can step onto the stage again with this film is something worth looking forward to.
The fresh faces of Maipaidong and Yang Weilun on the big screen are equally impossible to ignore. Among them, Maipaidong plays the second defendant Tang Wenqi in the drama “Justice Corridor”, while Yang Weilun plays the first defendant Zhang Xianzong. Both of them have explosive acting skills, making the audience itch with excitement. They are also the hot favorites for awards this year.
Best New Actor
For the Best New Actor category, it includes Lin Nuo, who is only ten years old (White Day Youth), MIRROR member Liu Yingting (My Mom Has a Second), Lu Juean (Outdated. Celebrate) & (Spicy Family), and Zhou Hanning (Dim Light).
This year, several members of MIRROR have tried their hand in the film industry. Although Jiang Tao missed out on a nomination for Best New Actor, he received a nomination for Best Original Film Song for “Unchanging Wind and Rain”. Edan Lui Jue-an also received award nominations for his roles in two films, and his performance as a new actor is definitely outstanding.
