The popular side braid hairstyle from the last century has unexpectedly become a trend at the end of 2020?

In recent years, with the prevalence of the term “retro,” not only have many fashion items taken on a nostalgic flavor, but even hair trends have embraced a vintage style. For example, the previously introduced French Bob or the recent popular “bohemian curls” are all hairstyles from the 90s that have made a comeback this year. However, not everyone may be willing to cut or perm their hair to keep up with the retro trend, so the hairstyles mentioned next may be worth a try.

This hairstyle, which was popular in the last century, is the two small strands of hair tied in a mini side braid with a middle part in the front, while the remaining hair can be left down naturally or tied up in different ways. This creates a unique and strong personality, resembling two “whiskers” growing out of the head, and framing the face to create a slimming effect.

This bangs hairstyle was extremely popular in the 90s, with Hollywood actress Sharon Tate sporting it at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival. Paired with a low-cut evening gown, she exuded elegance and a youthful charm, stunning everyone. Margot Robbie recreated the same hairstyle at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, wearing a Chanel collar dress, exuding the same elegance and grace as Sharon.

However, the same hairstyle in 2020, interpreted by Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid, and BLACKPINK’s Jennie, presents a completely different style. Hailey Bieber’s overall hairstyle is actually quite similar to Sharon Tate and Margot Robbie, with two mini side braids framing her face and the rest of her hair left down naturally. However, the interpretation is different as she wears a bucket hat and pairs it with a sexy street style outfit, giving the hairstyle a cool and handsome look.

As for Bella Hadid and BLACKPINK Jennie’s demonstrations, they are even more different. Unlike Hailey Bieber, who pulls out hair strands from both sides, they directly pull out hair from the central part, creating a jumping effect on the braids, bringing out a unique feeling. Bella casually twists the remaining hair into a bun, then wears a low-cut green dress, her avant-garde and bold style perfectly matching her temperament. Jennie, on the other hand, handles the remaining hair with double ponytails, paired with a hoodie outfit, which appears relatively playful and cute.

Actually, it’s not difficult at all to create the same hairstyle, just a few steps can do it. First, blow dry the wet hair to help smooth the hair and reduce frizz; then use hair oil on the ends to add shine to the hair, and then use a straightener to make the hair more sleek, making it easier to braid next. Then spray some hair gel on your fingertips, take a suitable amount of hair on both sides to braid, be sure to keep your hands as close to your cheeks as possible when braiding the side braids to prevent the roots from increasing in volume.

After braiding your sideburns, you can fix them in three different ways: first, tie them up with a transparent rubber band; second, backcomb the end to achieve a fixed effect; third, use a straight hair clip to hold it in place for a few seconds with heat. Finally, finish by adding shine with a styling spray!
